Spring is in the air

With the flat season now well under way, and the arrival of some warmer/ drier weather, horses and staff have a pep in their step and are looking forward to the season ahead. Although quiet with runners at the moment, we are busy in the yard as we build into the season.

Joanne and I, were married in December and spent some time abroad in January. As a result, we only had a handful of runners at Dundalk over the winter, but were encouraged by the recent maiden runs of Call the cavalry & Mendez. Both ran with promise and are horses to look forward to. There are some more nice unraced 3yo's to keep an eye, which i will highlight later.

We are a few weeks behind fitness wise but all of the horses are coming along nicely. The ground is testing at the moment and we wouldn't have many that enjoy it anyway. Fingers crossed we will get busier with runners from late april onwards.

Yard improvements

Over the winter we were hard at work, doing a deep clean of our barn and improving ventilation / air flow. We also installed a new water filtration system. We are constantly striving to improve our facilities and in turn our results. The attention has now switched from winter clean up to spring cleaning, as the annual paddock maintenance, harrowing, rolling, aerating and fertilising begins.

New arrivals

We have had an exciting few weeks with arrival of several foals on the farm. Pictured below is a nice coulsty x supreme machine Colt

Horses to follow

we only have a handful of 2yo's this year but one to keep an eye out for is a cotai glory filly owned Mariann Klay. She is a strong filly, weighing almost 500Kg and does everything easily. She wont be seen until the second half of the season but is definitely one for the notebook. There is also a homebred Kodi Bear gelding, owned by Joanne that's showing up well. He was broken in and pretrained by the team at A&N bloodstock over the winter and they did a great job with him.

Of the unraced 3YO's one to watch is Toristar. Sea the stars x viztoria. A lovely big colt, owned by John and Karen Lavery. He was very raw and immature as a yearling and 2yo, but has physically done very well over the winter and the penny is beginning to drop with him. We think he could be a nice horse in the making. two other nice unraced maidens to keep an eye on are Tribal profit, owned by John Tuthill and Riot Star, owned by Sebastian Curran.

Breeze ups

With the breeze up season imminent, my plan is to try and bolster our number of 2yo's by shopping for a breeze up horse or two. The catalogue has just been released for Fairyhouse and i will focus on the Irish breeze up sales this year. if you are interested in getting involved in this venture, please contact me at 0ffice@christimmonsracing.com for more information.

Thanks for taking the time to read, please follow our progress throughout the season and don't hesitate to reach out with any enquiries.
